What There is to Know About High School Wrestling

There is a lot to know about wrestling. One thing is that it is a fun sport to do while your in school. This sport is also very dangerous, because people break their arm or neck and any other part of their body during this sport. The second thing you have to know is how to keep up with the points and what they get them for. Here is some of the ways they get them: take downs, back points, near fault, and penalties. There is a lot of moves in wrestling. Some are unique, hard to learn, and the basics. One of the most basic moves is the half. That is the very first move you will learn in wrestling. This move will win alot of matches. One year I saw a kid make it to state just by using this move. There is another basic move, it is called the head and arm. Mainly the people that use this move is weight classes 152lb to 275lb. You use it when you are in the standing position. This move can really hurt someone if you run it right. There is alot more moves but I don't know all of them.

This is Ian Harper from St. Clair Co. High School, he is wrestling in state for first and second.

How The Points Are Given During A Match

This are some of the things you get points for during a match and how many you get for each thing. You get 2 points for getting back points, reversal, and takedown. You get 3 points for near fault, which means when you almost pin your opponent, 1 point for penalty and escapes.

How The Team Points Are Given During A Tournament

The points are giving by pins, beat by points, or tech. When you pin someone in a tournament the team gets 7 points, beating someone by points that will give the team 3 points, and teching someone will give the team 5 points. You also get 7 points by someone forfeiting to you, which means they had to drop out because of injury, didn't show up at the tournament, or got sick after the sign ups were finished. This does not happy all the time in a tournaments, it is very rare that this will happen. So that is how points are giving in wrestling tournament.
